Two Ways to Reduce Arthritis Pain
If you suffer from arthritis and are finding the pain hard to bear, here are two steps you can take to lower your pain levels.
Do some low-impact exercise
If your joints are stiff, sore and aching as a result of your arthritis, the last thing you probably want to do is exercise. However, whilst it might seem counterintuitive, certain types of exercise can actually reduce the pain caused by this health condition.
Low-impact forms of physical activity (i.e., activities which do not place a lot of pressure on the joints) like swimming, walking and yoga can help to increase blow flow to the affected parts of your body; this can ease the pain caused by joint stiffness.
When combined with a healthy diet, exercise can also improve arthritic pain indirectly, by helping you to lose weight. This is a particularly important point to note, as excess weight will place a strain on your already-inflamed, painful joints every time that you stand up or walk and, in doing so, will increase your pain levels. Additionally, being medically obese can increase bodily inflammation, which can also exacerbate your symptoms (as arthritis is an inflammatory disease; as such, anything which increases inflammation in your body will worsen this condition).
Given this, if you're struggling to manage your pain levels, it's worth doing some form of gentle exercise every day.
Chiropractic treatment
If your arthritis pain is quite severe and cannot be managed through things like medication and exercise, then it may be a good idea to look for a clinic in your area that offers chiropractic services.
The joint manipulation, massage and muscular stretches that the chiropractor performs can improve blood flow (which can reduce both stiffness and aches) and release tension in the muscles around your arthritic joints.
The techniques employed by a chiropractor could not only dramatically reduce the amount of pain you experience on a daily basis but could also help you to maintain or perhaps even improve your existing mobility levels; this could help to make day-to-day tasks like preparing your meals or doing household chores far less exhausting. This, in turn, should help to improve your quality of life.
It's important to be aware of the fact that if your main concern is pain management, you will need to undergo regular chiropractic treatment in order to keep your pain levels as low as possible. The effects of the treatment may last for just a few days or for several weeks, depending on the severity of your condition.
